Love doesn’t make the world go ’round.
Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.
– Franklin P. Jones
I remember being addicted to a KDrama that was rather revolutionary during it’s heyday: The First Shop of Coffee Prince. There was so much buzz about it to the point that a Special episode was put together to capture how the Director/ Writers developed the cult hit (and the very tired crew who napped whenever and wherever they could) and viewers also saw the palpable BTS chemistry amongst the lead actors. What made it such a hit?
- Girl pretending to be Boy to earn money? Check.
- Hawt Chaebol who is an International Man of Mystery? Check.
- Coterie of guy friends who happen to be Cute too? Check.
- Inevitable Love Line and Angst? Double Check.
- Extend one more episode because it was SCORCHING the ratings? Check.
Though CP’s episode 17 was more of a filler than solid closure/ headway for the major characters, I have a feeling Savvy King shall up the ante and deliver a hefty episode befitting a Drama Finale.
Here we (eight years forward) are, gathered today/ tonight in the presence of cyber witnesses, to join Lee Min Seok and Jung Soo Young in everlasting happiness. In the past sixteen episodes they have been together, their love and understanding of each other has grown and matured, and now they have decided to…
Live HAPPILY Ever and Ever with MS still as a High Schooler?
Next Day, MS and his buddies “enjoyed” lunch at Tae-Sok’s parents’ restaurant and noticed that they were the only ones there. TS explained that his family has diversified income stream, so it’s not all bad seeing the empty restaurant. TS also brought up the financial matter that caused SY to be a no-show at his dad’s party. MS felt bad about how he reacted to her being MIA last night and that got MS to think seriously about his future with SY, for he is still a high school student afterall.
“I am Truly Sorry … Can I have one last skinship with you?” 😥
SY allows him to walk a few paces away before she scurried over, grabbed his collar and said:
SY: Don’t Go…<fidgets> Umm… <fidgets and takes the plunge> If you find it hard to study, I’ll help you… If your dad gets lonely, I’ll be there for him… I’ll be your family… LET’S GET MARRIED
MY: What? WHAT did you Say?!
SY: What?! … Why?… <looks to the side>… Ok?
MY: Kyoron, as in KYORON?! (still in disbelief, confirming her proposal)
SY: Oh… uh.. yes
MS: Really?! But.. You know I’m –
SY: Yes I know. A High School student.
SY then struggles not to cry in front of him, but clearly showed him how she truly felt about MS. She couldn’t go on living without him in her life and the only thing she can think of having him stay on was to get married. He was clearly affected by her confession. Both took a moment to suck some melted ice cream while stifling back the sniffles…
Then both of them returned to their respective parents working their charms off, clearly entering phase 1 of getting parents’ permission to get married.
But of course, this couple is up against concrete wall when it comes to realizing their marriage, especially when one half of the couple is still in school. SY’s office mates found out accidentally (by courtesy of reading text message received on SY’s phone) and weren’t too encouraging of their union. At first.
What would it be like when they have a child? She would be home taking care of the baby, while young, virile MS would be out clubbing? LOL!!
Doubt had started to seep into SY. Would this marriage work out? Can our love alone be enough to weather the storm?
We know how “being a Namja” is important to MS, especially when he has a Noona as his sweetheart. And he guessed that SY was getting cold feet about the marriage.
Unbeknownst to her, he got SY something that was significant to him. The one thing that brought them together on that fateful night. She was the only “Popcorn Noona” in his life…
I AM A PUDDLE OF MESS RIGHT NOW!
Time to officially introduce SY noona to the Dad!
SY’s mum on the other hand, was courteous towards MS, thinking that he was Director Lee of Comfo. However, imagine the utter shock she received when she saw MS in high school, almost the same manner in which SY found out the truth about MS. Hells’ Gates have busted loose! :X
Finally after hours of kneeling in the rain, SY’s mum emerges with an umbrella in hand, but walks past him. He struggles to call her back, but falls as his knees gave way. SY found him sprawled on the ground and hauled him in to treat his injured palm.
And then, Mum comes back and grumpily tells them they can get hitched.
CUE WEDDING SCENE!
This has got to be one of the most chaotic, awkward, funny YET true to their Adorkable selves!
JW Hyungnim was THERE! AWWWW!!
There IS a time jump of 3 years!
We get a glimpse of how married life is for MS & SY:
Turns out SY still works in Comfo and a secretary to the upgraded Team Jangnim.
MS heads off to college to see his good friends who are now in college and still are involved in Ice Hockey..
Apparently there was a competition in doing presentations and the winner will gain internship at, big corporations. So guess who signed up for that?
That night, the young married couple return to their beloved neighborhood, tracing back to the steps where he first confessed his heart to her… where he first kissed her.
He teases her about her age, which is clearly still a sensitive issue with SY.
“Don’t you know I’m crazy about you? I fall in love with you every day. Popcorn Unnie. My Pop. Ally. My Wife. Wifey… Darling”…
And Lee Ha Na takes us to Credits as she sings the beautiful OST, Fluttering Heart.
OMG! This finale is utterly DAEBAK!!
THIS IS HOW A FINALE IS DONE, PEEPS!!
To awesome writers Jo Sung Hee & Yang Hee Seung:
Remain true to your heart and sincerest intentions in your future projects and do not give in to power-crazed broadcasters to arm-wrestle you over your creative rights! 😀
To fantastic Director Yoo Je Won:
You are one of the up & coming Directors of the new generation who have the ability to create Cult Following around the World. Thank You VERY Kamsa! XD
Savvy King, you’re a definite shoo-in as a Classic (whut? they just finished like LAST NIGHT?!) in terms of narrative, and how such realism is shown by able and talented ensemble cast. Phew! I need to lay down for a bit just to soak in the DAEBAKNESS of this finale! ❤ ❤ ❤
